Pa. State Police: Snapchat shooting threat 'not credible'
State troopers said they increased their presence at some schools Monday after being alerted to a Snapchat message containing a threat to carry out a shooting at “Central High School.”
Police from Troop A in Greensburg said they do not have evidence to suggest the threat was credible and determined it was similar to one which circulated on social media in 2021 in New York state.
Franklin Regional Superintendent Gennaro Piraino said the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit sent a communication to school districts, notifying them that the threat was determined to be a hoax. District leaders also were asked to alert the unit if they did receive a threat.
State police said students and parents can report threatening or suspicious activity anonymously through the Safe2Say Something program at Safe2SayPA.org.
