Part of Route 981 in Mt. Pleasant Township will close starting Tuesday.
The road, also known in that section as Mt. Pleasant Calumet Road will be closed from Waltons Lane to Boyer Road.
The closure is anticipated to continue into mid-June depending on weather and operations, according to PennDOT.
Drivers should follow the detour along Kecksburg Road, Route 982, Route 31 (East Main Street/West Main Street), and Route 819 (North Diamond Street/Low Street).
The construction is part of the $55.2 million Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project to upgrade the Route 981 corridor.
On this part of the project, workers from Walsh Construction Co. will be tying the new Route 981 into the existing Route 981.
The improvement project stretches from the intersection with Route 819 in Mt. Pleasant Township to the intersection with Route 30 in Unity.
Its broken into three separate projects. The southernmost section will involve reconstruction of Route 981 from the intersection with Route 819 north to a point just south of the town of Calumet.
The entire project is expected to be complete in September.
