A patron dining at Greensburg’s Szechuan Garden suffered apparently minor injuries when a car backed into the front of the Chinese restaurant Sunday afternoon.

The driver, a Greensburg woman, and a pet dog that was riding in her Honda Pilot sport utility vehicle weren’t injured in the wreck shortly before 3 p.m. at 670 E. Pittsburgh St., according to Greensburg fire Chief Tom Bell.

Dakota Hoover of Greensburg, a clerk at the nearby Dollar Tree store, said he heard the crash and rushed to clear away rubble to help free the customer, who was lying on the floor. “She was bleeding on her hand” but had no other visible injuries, he said.

She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Bell said, while other diners exited through a rear door.

Firefighters cleared away debris and placed boards over the damaged entrance as the car was towed away.

It wasn’t clear when the restaurant might reopen.

Bell said there didn’t appear to be major structural damage beyond the entrance but noted city code officials will need to inspect the building.

No one was injured in July 2018 when a Hempfield driver crashed her sedan into the entrance of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, an anchor store in the same shopping plaza.
