Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle early Friday morning in Mt. Pleasant Township, according to firefighters who responded to the scene.

The incident happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. along East Main Street near the intersections with Yoder Avenue and Maple Street, according to a state police dispatcher.

One victim, a male, who was not identified was taken to Excela Health Frick hospital in ambulance and then airlifted to an undisclosed Pittsburgh area hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to Mt. Pleasant Assistant Fire Chief Mark Kraisinger.

The second victim, a woman, was looked over by ambulance personnel, but declined transport to the hospital, he said.

“That area near the Exxon station is in the township and is pretty dark because it does not have street lights in that area. The Mt. Pleasant Medic 10 ambulance station is real close, so they were already looking at the patients when we got there,” Kraisinger said.

Kraisinger said the driver of the car that struck the pair remained at the scene.

Investigators were still at the scene at 5:45 a.m., state police said.

A report on the accident including the identities of the pedestrians and driver was not yet available.
