About 55 Penn Middle School students and staff packed and donated tote bags for local cancer patients in honor of late teacher, Jackie Landram.

This is the third year that the school has donated items to the cancer center through their charitable initiative, Landram’s Light. The school donated 175 bags on Nov. 26, 100 in February and 50 in 2024 — all to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Monroeville.

Each bag contains items including a blanket, beanie, water bottle, hand warmers, lip balm, mints, coloring book, colored pencils, hand sanitizer, tissues and lotion — items that are meant to help with some of the side effects of chemotherapy.

Landram taught seventh grade English at Penn Middle for 16 years. She died at age 44 on Jan. 25, 2022, following a seven-year battle with ovarian cancer. Her last day of work was just weeks earlier, on Jan. 7.
