Penn State Master Gardeners will host Hempfield open house
Penn State Master Gardeners invite the public to a free open house at their demonstration gardens in Hempfield.
The open house will be 9 a.m. to noon July 19 at the Penn State Extension’s Donohoe Center, 214 Donohoe Road in Hempfield.
Visitors can walk through more than a dozen demonstration gardens, which show how different varieties of plants, shrubs and trees perform when planted in southwestern Pennsylvania.
“In addition to touring the gardens, visitors will have the opportunity to ask gardening questions related to their own gardens,” Master Gardener Coordinator Mandy Smith said in a news release. “Members of the Garden Hotline team will be available to offer insight into problems with vegetable gardening, weeds, plant diseases or other issues home gardeners are experiencing.”
Demonstration gardens are each focused a particular group of plants. They include gardens featuring annuals, conifers, day lilies, deer-resistant plants, native pollinator plants, perennials and more.
