A Penn Township man is charged with homicide by vehicle and related criminal offenses for his role in a rear-end collision Jan. 21 on Route 30 that claimed the life of a North Huntingdon man.
Chad Gregorini, 44, is accused of driving 53 mph in a 40 mph zone in North Huntingdon when his pickup truck rear-ended a SUV, severely injuring Kenneth C. Youngerman and his wife, Hilda. The Youngermans were stopped on the highway about 1:33 p.m. waiting to turn on to Edwin Drive, according to township police Officer Theodore Kukich.
Kenneth, 77, died of multiple injuries — including a broken neck — 15 days after the crash at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, according to court documents. Hilda suffered 14 broken ribs and a punctured lung, police said.
Kukich obtained video documenting the crash from nearby businesses.
“(Gregorini’s) vehicle was approximately 252 yards from the point of impact when it first appears in the video. There was no evidence of braking nor any maneuver to avoid impact,” Kukich wrote in court documents.
Gregorini also is charged with aggravated assault by vehicle, careless driving, reckless driving, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and multiple traffic citations.
Gregorini was released on $10,000 unsecured bond pending a Sept. 9 preliminary hearing.
Gregorini could not be reached for comment. His attorney, Lee Demosky, of Greensburg, declined comment.
