Live Nativities planned

Level Green Presbyterian Church and St. Barbara Parish in Penn Township will host live outdoor Nativity events on Dec. 19 and Dec. 13, respectively.

The Mon Yough Chorale community choir will kick off the Level Green Presbyterian event with a performance inside the church at 6 p.m. Visiting with animals will start at 6:45 p.m. and the live Nativity program will start at 7 p.m.

Christmas carol singing will follow the program.

Hot chocolate, hot cider, coffee and Christmas cookies will be served in the church’s fellowship hall. There also will be children’s crafts and face painting. Adults and older children can help decorate a gift that will be given to local senior citizens. Everyone can participate in cookie decorating.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a canned food item to donate to the Trafford Food Bank. The event is free to attend. Parking at the church, 105 Olive Drive, is limited.

The St. Barbara Parish Nativity will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the church, 111 Raymaley Road. The event is a collaboration between the parish and St. Regis Church in Trafford.

In addition to the Nativity, there will be a petting zoo featuring a baby camel, refreshments and crafts.

Art exhibit

You Are Here art gallery in Jeannette is exhibiting the work of a Westmoreland native, whose art is displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The exhibit will remain open until Dec. 13 and reopen from Jan. 23 to Feb. 21. It includes pieces by Tony Naponic, an Adamsburg native whose work caught the public eye in the 1980s. Three of his pieces are displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Naponic died in 2003 at the age of 49. His niece loaned some of his artwork to You Are Here for the exhibit.

The gallery at 406 Clay Ave. is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Rec the Halls event

Penn Township Recreation will host a holiday event, Rec the Halls, from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 14.

The event will take place at Penn Township Municipal Park, 2001 Municipal Court. There will be a tree lighting, a bonfire, s’mores, hot chocolate, cookies and food vendors. Participants can write letters to and take photos with Santa. There also will be an ugly sweater contest.

Holiday decorating contest

Penn Township residents can enter their home into a Christmas tree and light contest.

Penn Township Recreation is accepting submissions to the contest through Dec. 23. Photos and videos, along with the submitter’s contact information, can be emailed to recreation director Mike Tassone, mtassone@penntwp.org.

Winners, who will receive a gift card, will be announced on Penn Township Recreation’s Facebook page on Christmas Day.

Holiday lights recycling

The Community Women’s Club of Level Green is collecting old holiday lights for recycling until Jan. 10.

A drop-off bin is located outside of the Level Green Community Building, 123 Murrysville Road in Penn Township. All string lights, including traditional and LED bulbs, will be accepted. All bulbs must remain attached.
