Penn-Trafford-Jeannette area coronavirus test results tallied for week ending March 9, 2021

The number of new confirmed covid cases in the Penn-Trafford-Jeannette area climbed in the last seven days after several weeks of steady declines.

There were 28 new cases in the seven-day period ending March 9 — up from 16 the week prior, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Since the pandemic began in March, the six ZIP codes covering most of the three communities have seen a total of 1,743 confirmed cases as of March 9, up from 1,715 on March 2.

Residents of these six ZIP codes have taken a total of 9,685 coronavirus tests, 18% of which were positive. Since March 2, 134 test results have been reported, 21% of which were positive.

The breakdown of cases by ZIP code is:

  • Jeannette, ZIP code 15644: 935 confirmed cases, 15 new cases this week, 492 probable cases, 4,430 negative test results
  • Trafford, ZIP code 15085: 410 confirmed cases, seven new cases this week, 168 probable cases, 1,850 negative test results
  • Harrison City: ZIP code 15636, 219 confirmed cases, one new case this week, 107 probable cases, 900 negative test results
  • Manor, ZIP code 15665: 96 confirmed cases, four new cases this week, 51 probable cases, 324 negative test results
  • Penn Borough, ZIP code 15675: 44 confirmed cases, no new cases this week, 32 probable cases, 218 negative test results
  • Claridge, ZIP code 15623: 39 confirmed cases, one new case this week, 12 probable cases, 220 negative test results

A significant portion of Penn Township is grouped under the Irwin 15642 ZIP code. That ZIP code has seen a total of 2,667 confirmed cases, up 39 from the week prior.

Penn-Trafford School District has reported a total of 135 covid cases since the school year began, with six new cases reported in the last week. The new cases include two students and two staff members at Penn-Trafford High School, a student at Trafford Middle School, and a student and Sunrise Elementary School.

Westmoreland County has had a total of 19,218 confirmed cases, 8,085 probable cases, 684 covid deaths and 87,994 negative tests since the start of the pandemic.

A large spike in cases in the county began in September and peaked Dec. 10 with 747 positive cases in a single day. Case counts have been declining steadily, but remain above pre-September levels.
