Motorists traveling at night on Interstate 70 in Westmoreland County will encounter lane restrictions in Rostraver and ramp closures at the North Belle Vernon exit this week as PennDOT contractors work on road improvements.

The North Belle Vernon exit and entrance ramps for westbound traffic on I-70 (Exit 42) will be closed between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily while Golden Triangle Construction Company patches concrete, repairs drainage and replaces a barrier as part of a larger pavement preservation project along the interstate.

The ramp work is expected to continue through Thursday, depending on weather conditions.

Motorists seeking to enter I-70 will be detoured via the ramp onto the eastbound lanes of the interstate. They will take Exit 43 (Donora/Fayette City), onto Route 201 north toward Donora, and then will re-enter I-70 westbound via the ramp just after crossing the Route 201 bridge over the interstate.

Those planning to get off I-70 will continue farther west, using Exit 41 (Route 906 Belle Vernon/Monessen). At the end of that off-ramp, they will make two lefts to return east on the interstate. They will then use the eastbound ramp at Exit 42 to reach North Belle Vernon.

In addition, single-lane restrictions are expected in both directions on I-70 in Rostraver between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily through Friday.

The restrictions will be in place between the exits for Arnold City (Exit 44) and Smithton (Exit 49) while crews work on a median barrier on the interstate.

That work is part of the $120.6 million project that includes construction of the partially completed diverging diamond interchange at I-70 and Route 51 and improvements on an adjacent section of the interstate.
