PennDOT to repair slide in Hempfield, extend Route 982 detour in Mt. Pleasant Township
Motorists in Hempfield will encounter a single-lane restriction on a section of Donohoe Road beginning Monday.
Temporary signals will control alternating traffic while crews complete a slide repair between Georges Station Road and Autumn Lane, in the vicinity of the National Guard office.
Work on the PennDOT project is expected to begin at 7 a.m. Monday and will continue through late August, depending on weather conditions.
Work to replace a pipe and install an inlet on Route 982 in Mt. Pleasant Township and a related traffic detour are being extended through late July, PennDOT said.
A closure is in effect on Route 982 between Double Hill Road and Claypike Road/Kecksburg Road.
The detour follows portions of Route 31 (Laurelville Road/Main Street), Route 981 (Church Street/Mount Pleasant Calumet Road) and Kecksburg Road.
Overnight single-lane restrictions will continue Monday night through Wednesday morning on a segment of Interstate 70 in Rostraver and South Huntingdon.
The restrictions will be in place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, affecting eastbound traffic between the Arnold City and Smithton exits and westbound traffic between the Smithton and Route 51 exits.
Concrete pavement work began on June 29 as part of a $120.6 million project including reconfiguration of the Route 51 interchange and reconstruction of an adjacent section of I-70.
Meanwhile, PennDOT is planning the following additional work on roads in Westmoreland County during the week beginning Monday:
• An additional slide repair will take place on Bailey Farm Road in Unity.
• Ditching will take place on Barren Run Road in South Huntingdon and on Water Street in East Huntingdon.
• Shoulder stabilization will take place on Barren Run Road in South Huntingdon.
• Additional pipe replacements will take place on Pandora Road in Derry Township and on Arona Road in Hempfield.
• Pipe installations will take place on Bailey Farm Road in Unity and on Laughner Road in Fairfield.
Crews will pick up litter, replace road signs and perform other tasks on various routes countywide.
Motorists should anticipate potential detours, lane restrictions and flaggers in work areas.
Residents can call PennDOT toll-free at 800-349-7623 to report road maintenance concerns and the locations of dead deer on state highways.
