PennDOT projects will result in a road closure and detour in Mt. Pleasant Township and lane restrictions on Interstate 70 beginning Monday.

Closure of a section of Route 982, between Double Hill Road and Claypike Road/Kecksburg Road in Mt. Pleasant Township, is expected to continue through early June.

The closure will allow state maintenance crews to replace a pipe and install an inlet.

Motorists will be detoured along Routes 982, 31 (Laurelville Road/Main Street) and 981 (Church Street/Mount Pleasant Calumet Road) and Kecksburg Road.

Daytime single-lane restrictions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through May 2 on a section of I-70 between the between the Smithton and Route 51 exits.

The restrictions will be in effect for both eastbound and westbound traffic as Geronimo Painting begins to remove work platforms under the Matthew Smelser Memorial Bridge that crosses the Youghiogheny River.

Additional rolling lane restrictions will be in effect between 8 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday for eastbound traffic on the same section of the interstate. This will allow Golden Triangle and subcontractor Vantage Corp. to remove an overhead sign structure.

The work, including rehabilitation of the bridge, is part of an ongoing $120.7 million project to reconstruct and reformat the Route 51 exit while making improvements on adjacent sections of Route 51 and I-70.

In Hempfield, on the outskirts of Jeannette, another PennDOT pipe replacement project is slated to close a section of Penn Adamsburg Road, between Gratz Street and Julie Dean Lane.

The work is expected to continue through early May, with traffic rerouted along Penn High Park Road, Baughman Avenue, Park Street, Pennsylvania Boulevard, Route 30 and Edna Road.

Meanwhile, PennDOT is planning the following work on roads in Westmoreland County during the week beginning Monday:

• Base repairs will take place on Arona Road in Hempfield, on Route 31 (Summit Road) in Donegal Township and on Nicholls Hill Road in Rostraver.

• Shoulder cutting will take place on various routes in East Huntingdon and South Huntingdon townships.

• Patching will take place on Route 30 in Unity and Derry townships and on Routes 66 and 366 in Washington Township.

• A slide repair will take place on Latrobe-Crabtree Road in Unity.

• Sweeping will take place on Route 30 in Ligonier Township and on Route 31 (Donegal Road) in Donegal Borough.

Ditch cleaning will take place on the following:

• Route 381 (Weavertown Road) in Donegal and Cook townships.

• Clay Pike in Mt. Pleasant Township.

• Nicholls Hill Road in Rostraver.

Crews will pick up litter, replace road signs and perform other tasks on various routes countywide.

Motorists should anticipate potential detours, lane restrictions and flaggers in work areas.

Residents can call PennDOT toll-free at 800-349-7623 to report road maintenance concerns and the locations of dead deer on state highways.
