A person has died after being struck by a train in Hempfield.

A Westmoreland County dispatcher said the incident took place around 4:45 p.m. Saturday along the Norfolk Southern tracks at the end of Clark Street.

Authorities could not confirm if the victim was a man or a woman.

Railroad spokesman Jeff DeGraff confirmed late Saturday afternoon that a westbound train struck someone who was on the tracks in Westmoreland County, and crews were responding to the scene.

He did not have further details.

State police from the Greensburg station are investigating. A message left for state police was not immediately returned.

No further information was immediately available.
