For the first time in two years, Petland Norwin has adopted out all their dogs, leaving the cages empty — at least, temporarily.
“It’s pretty amazing,” said Kennel Manager Jamie Laitinen. “We’ve never come this close to emptying our kennels.”
The Norwin Town Square pet store opened in 2016 and houses cats and dogs previously placed in high-risk or kill shelters. Since they opened, over 2,000 pets have been rehoused, Laitinen said.
Holding about 45 animals, the rescue adopted their last dog, Debbie, after posting about her on Facebook last week.
“She’s a 6-month-old female lab mix named Debbie,” the rescue wrote in the post. “She’s the only one left until we clear the kennel!”
Despite all the cages being empty, the work is far from done. Over 50 dogs arrived at Petland Norwin on Wednesday and soon will be available for adoption.
According to Laitinen, when animals come to the rescue, they are assessed by a veterinarian and receive necessary treatment. Puppies are put in quarantine for 10 days to check for diseases.
Several people commented on a Facebook post announcing the accomplishment, sharing photos of dogs adopted from Petland Norwin.
“It’s a pretty amazing feeling,” Laitinen said.
