University of Pittsburgh Greensburg President Robert Gregerson talks about the Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s new Wings Across Westmoreland installation unveiled on the Hempfield campus Wednesday. The wings feature images relating to the university’s history. The installation marked the 12th of its kind around the county.

The Wings Across Westmoreland installation at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg was unveiled Wednesday at the Chambers Hall Rock Garden on the Hempfield campus.

“Our wings incorporate important landmarks, logos and organizations that showcase the people and history of the surrounding community that supports it,” said Ari Burke, event and program specialist for the Westmoreland Cultural Trust.

The newest wings were created by artist Patrick Mahoney, with sign fabrication and installation by Jeannette-based Fejes Signs.

The Pitt-Greensburg wings feature iconic campus images, including the pedestrian bridge that connects both sides of campus, as well as architectural highlights from campus buildings. Bruiser the Bobcat, Pitt-Greensburg’s mascot, is also featured in his bronze stature form and his game day form.

The five campus presidents are listed, as is the 60th anniversary slogan, “From 1963 — Celebration our Past –Forging our Future — Creating Opportunities.”

In addition to Pitt-Greensburg, Westmoreland Cultural Trust has installed 11 wing locations throughout the region, with the 13th set slated for New Kensington in the coming months.

Other wing locations include Greensburg, Art in the Alley; Mt. Pleasant Township, Overly’s Country Christmas; Irwin, Lamp Theatre; Jeannette, Sobel’s Obscure Brewing; Ligonier Town Hall; Mt. Pleasant Public Library; Trafford Municipal Building; Vandergrift’s Casino Theatre; Youngwood’s Five Star Trail; Smithton Borough Building and the West Newton Municipal Building.
