A University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg student was struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening near the entrance to the college in Hempfield, according to school officials.

First responders were called to the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Road and University Drive just after 5 p.m., according to a Westmoreland County 911 supervisor. Trooper Cliff Greenfield said the vehicle stayed at the scene and police reconstructed the crash.

The woman was flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian hospital, according to university spokeswoman Susan Isola. Greenfield said he believes her injuries were serious.

University officials released a statement that the woman’s parents have been notified and that Residence Life staff and counseling are available to students.

State police are investigating.
