A Pitt-Greensburg student who was struck near the entrance to the college in Hempfield is in serious condition, a state police spokesman said.

Audrey Fruehauf, 18, of Rector, was crossing Mt. Pleasant Road near Finoli Drive and University Drive when she was struck by the car, according to a state police report.

State Trooper Cliff Greenfield said Fruehauf pressed the crosswalk button, looked to her right and ran onto the crosswalk before the southbound driver, James Freeman, 70, of Greensburg, collided with her, the report said. State police said the traffic light was green when Freeman came through the intersection.

Fruehauf was flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, according to university spokeswoman Susan Isola. Freeman was not injured.

A Mutual Aid ambulance crew, Pitt-Greensburg police and the Hempfield Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

The accident investigation by a collision analysis and reconstruction specialist unit is ongoing, Greenfield said.
