Pittsburgh-to-Harrisburg passenger rail service out until May
The suspension of the Amtrak train between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, with stops in Greensburg, Latrobe and Johnstown, has been extended until May 4, a PennDOT spokeswoman said.
Amtrak suspended passenger rail service between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia on March 19 because of low ticket sales as the spread of the coronavirus reduced travel by train. The Pennsylvanian traveled eastbound from Pittsburgh in the morning, and returned to Pittsburgh in the evening.
“All of our measures in this regard have been aimed at mitigating the spread of COVID-19, in concert with Amtrak,” said PennDOT spokeswoman Alexis Campbell. PennDOT helps to subsidize ridership on the Keystone and Pennsylvanian trains.
With service suspended as of March 18 on the Keystone train, which runs from Harrisburg, to Philadelphia to New York City, all Amtrak service in Pennsylvania has been suspended for about three weeks.
