A new “Play Express” train play set has been added to the Sutersville community park after the Westmoreland County Land Bank demolished an abandoned property and expanded the property. The work was paid for through a grant from the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. In addition to the land bank, Sutersville Borough and the Redevelopment Authority of Westmoreland County were involved in the project.

Children in Sutersville have a new playground to climb on after a park expansion, according to the Westmoreland County Land Bank.

The “Play Express” is a four piece train set that includes a tunnel and small slide at the town’s community park on First Avenue, the land bank announced this week.

An abandoned house next to an existing part of the park was demolished last year and the site was expanded to house the train set and other play areas.

A tanker and engine car have been installed and funding is still needed for two more pieces of the train set, the announcement said. The equipment is for children ages 2 to 5.

The demolition, park expansion and playground equipment were funded by the land bank, donations and grants from the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.
