A Fairfield Township man was jailed Wednesday on $500,000 bail after state police said he directed a passenger in his car to fire five shots out of the window Tuesday.

Darion Andrew Martin, 21, is charged with firearms violations, simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

Troopers were called to Market Street in the township at 5 p.m. for a report of shots fired in a residential area just outside of Bolivar near Westmoreland County’s border with Indiana County. A witness told police they saw a handgun pointed out of the passenger side window of a Chevrolet El Camino being driven by Martin, according to court papers.

Martin told police he directed his passenger to fire five rounds from the car into the air “to make a statement to Martin’s ex-girlfriend,” troopers wrote in court papers. Investigators found a revolver in his safe. Martin is not permitted to have a gun because of a previous felony conviction.

The passenger fled the scene and has not been located, police said.

Martin did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A July 11 preliminary hearing is set.
