State police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist July 4 on Route 66 in Hempfield.

Charles L Burkholder Jr., 67, of Acme, died of his injuries Monday at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, where he was taken after the 9:45 p.m. crash, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.

The crash occurred along Route 66, about four miles north of Greensburg, near the intersection with Poplar Drive.

A release on the accident is not yet available from state police.

The medical examiner’s office reported Friday the cause and manner of death are still pending completion of the investigation by state police.

Born in Latrobe, Burkholder had worked as a metal fabricator with EHC Industries in Mt. Pleasant for 28 years, according to his obituary.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Gonzalez, of Acme; his mother, Ann Burkholder of New Alexandria, and two children, Charles Burkholder III of Greensburg and Chelie Koshar of Scottdale.

Arrangements were handled by McCabe Funeral Home in Derry.
