Police: Driver was drunk during head-on crash in Murrysville that left man seriously injured

A Delmont woman is accused of being drunk at the time of a head-on crash Friday in Murrysville that left a man seriously injured.

Lane J. Weiner, 56, had two cold 12-packs of Bud Light that had been opened in the back seat of her car at the time of the crash, authorities alleged in a criminal complaint filed Tuesday. There were empty beer bottles strewn in the back seat, police said.

Weiner has not been arraigned on the charges.

Murrysville police were called to the two-vehicle crash on School Road just before 2 p.m. and found Weiner and the another motorist trapped in their cars. A witness told investigators she had been driving behind Weiner for a mile before the crash, and she suspected Weiner was impaired.

The witness told authorities Weiner appeared to be passed out at the intersection of Sardis and Bulltown roads, police said in the complaint. Numerous other drivers beeped their vehicles’ horns at her at that location and other intersections and also when Weiner stopped at the intersection of North Hills and School roads, which the witness said does not have a stop sign.

Weiner was driving erratically and “aggressively accelerated” up a hill on School Road, crossing over the center line before colliding with the other car, the witness told police.

Firefighters freed both drivers. The man underwent surgery at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh for a broken wrist and leg, police said.

Weiner was taken to the same hospital for treatment. A test reportedly showed her blood-alcohol content was 0.098 percent. The legal limit to drive in Pennsylvania is 0.08 percent.

Weiner is charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence and related offenses. She did not have an attorney listed in online court records. She could not be reached for comment.
