A Greensburg woman was behind bars Wednesday after police said she assaulted a grocery store employee on the third consecutive day the suspect picked up a cake, according to court papers.
Tajai Christi McRoberts, 21, allegedly punched a cashier in the face Tuesday and dragged her by her hair out of the Shop ‘n Save on North Main Street, according to Greensburg police. She was being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $25,000 bail.
On Sunday, McRoberts picked up a cake and cupcakes that she had ordered but failed to pay for the cupcakes, police said. Employees told investigators McRoberts came back the following day for another cake. She paid for the previous day’s cupcakes after being confronted by a manager and threatened a store clerk while paying for the second cake, according to court papers.
She was told to stay out of the store, police said.
On Tuesday, McRoberts picked up a third cake she ordered and again threatened clerks, according to court papers.
A female employee blocked the door as McRoberts tried to leave and the suspect allegedly assaulted her while three customers rushed to help, police said. Officers found McRoberts nearby. She told police she punched the clerk because she “got in her face,” according to court papers.
McRoberts is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and defiant trespass. She did not have an attorney listed in online court papers. A July 25 preliminary hearing is set.
