Derry Township man dies in ATV accident

Authorities identified a 25-year-old Derry Township man who died Sunday in an ATV accident.

Joshua P. Shugars was pronounced dead at 11 a.m. Sunday at the scene along Piper Road, the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office reported. The wreck was reported about 9:45 a.m. Shugars was riding alone and without a helmet when the Kawasaki all-terrain vehicle he was driving overturned on the road, according to the coroner’s office.

Shugars died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries, the coroner’s office reported. His death was ruled accidental.

State police said speed and careless driving were believed to be factors in the crash.

Lopatich-Brinker Funeral Home of Latrobe is in charge of arrangements. Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks.
