A male pedestrian who was stopped by Southwest Greensburg police in a neighborhood where multiple gunshots were heard early Wednesday told officers he fired two shots in the air after an argument with his girlfriend.

Edwardo Romero-Gross, 18, of Greensburg, was charged by police with reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, carrying a firearm without a license and public drunkenness after the 12:33 a.m. incident Wednesday in the 400 block of Sewickley Street in the borough.

Sgt. Todd Brant said he drove to the area after hearing gunshots and was met by a resident standing on her porch along nearby Stanton Street. The woman reported her family heard the shots and she saw two people running toward Greensburg afterwards.

Brant said two men were stopped nearby and Romero-Gross refused to tell officers whether he was carrying a handgun. Police say they detained and handcuffed Romero-Gross and seized a 9mm handgun from his waistband.

When Romero-Gross was questioned, Brant said, “he advised he was in an argument with his girlfriend at her residence and he took her gun without her permission and walked a few blocks from her residence and shot two times directly in the air.”

The other man who accompanied Romero-Gross was not charged. Police said the woman told police she did not realize her gun was taken, but did not want to report it stolen.

Romero-Gross was arraigned before Hempfield District Judge Tony Bompiani and held in the county jail after failing to post $7,500 bond.
