Mt. Pleasant man charged with throwing cat against a wall
A Mt. Pleasant man remains in jail on allegations he seriously injured a cat he threw against a wall.
Tyler Robert Kebberly, 21, is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison without bond on an aggravated animal cruelty charge, a felony. Police arrested him Friday.
Investigators were called by Green Hill Veterinary Care in Youngwood on Sept. 6 for a possible case of animal cruelty, according to Greensburg police and a humane agent with the Humane Society of Westmoreland County.
The cat, named Clumbsie, had injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, including decreased motor skills and moderate to severe neck pain, according to court papers. A witness told investigators she was arguing with her daughter and requesting Kebberly, the daughter’s boyfriend, pay for the cat’s veterinary expenses related to injuries Kebberly allegedly caused on a previous occasion.
During the argument, Kebberly picked the cat up by its legs, spun it around and threw it into the wall, according to police. The witness took the cat to the veterinarian an hour later. Charges were filed this month.
Kebberly was denied bond because he has two pending cases, according to online court records. He had been free on $5,000 unsecured bond from a July drug and traffic violation case and $10,000 bond in a May drug case, according to online court records.
Court hearings are set for next month in both of those cases. A Dec. 5 preliminary hearing is set on the new charges. Kebberly did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
