A Derry man is believed to have a serious injury after being hit by a car in a parking lot on Monday, according to state police.

Troopers said in a news release issued Friday that Roy R. Yost, 71, was walking through Eastgate Plaza in Hempfield at 1 p.m. when he was hit by a Chevrolet Sonic and knocked to the ground. The driver — Thomas W. Ferrenberg, 72, of Latrobe — didn’t see Yost as he was backing out of a parking spot, police said.

Police said Yost hit his head on the ground and was taken to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville for treatment. The driver and his passenger were not hurt, police said.
