Latrobe police officers responded to an incident in the 100 block of Washington Street on Thursday morning involving a man who was making threats to inflict injury upon himself and his domestic partner.

Chief Richard Bosco said officers contacted the man’s partner — who said they feared for their life and had received an emergency Protection From Abuse order against the man, who has reported mental health issues.

The man was broadcasting live on social media while wearing a bulletproof vest, putting guns in his belt and loading his rifle, Bosco said.

“(He was) proclaiming … that he wasn’t going to be taken alive by law enforcement,” Bosco said.

Police began setting up a protective surveillance perimeter around the partner’s home when the adult male showed up there. Police were able to secure the man “safely without incident,” Bosco said.

The man was taken to Westmoreland Hospital for a mental health evaluation. No charges had been filed as of Thursday.

Additional details were not available.
