A con artist scammed $1,500 from a Latrobe woman by pretending to be her pastor, according to state police.

The 67-year-old woman got a text message from an unknown person. The person claimed to be her pastor and said cancer patients needed help.

The suspect convinced the woman to send $1,500 worth of eBay and iTunes gift cards, police said. The suspect said they’d pay the woman back at church.

Investigators believe the suspect got the woman’s name and number from the church website.

The investigation is ongoing.
