State police are searching for a man who robbed a Unity gas station at gunpoint early Friday.

The suspect brandished what appeared to be a small-caliber, semi-automatic pistol, pointing it at least twice at the cashier at the BP station, which is located between the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 30, police said.

According to police, the employee refused to open the cash register, and the man ran toward the highway’s eastbound lanes after stealing several packs of Newport cigarettes. The robbery occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m.

Police said the suspect, whose image was caught on surveillance footage, is a white man between 20 and 35 years old, is more than 6 feet tall and has a medium build and short blond or light brown hair.

He may have tattoos on the tops of his right index and ring fingers, police said.

He was wearing a zippered gray fleece jacket with a collar, dark blue jeans and black Nike shoes with white soles.

He should be considered armed and dangerous, investigators said.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact state police at the Greensburg station at 724-832-3288.
