A Unity man was arrested on multiple assault charges after allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a hatchet Saturday, state police said.
Joshua L. Poole, 39, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment after the 5:15 p.m. incident on the 300 block of Allegheny Avenue.
Trooper Nicholas Moore said he was dispatched to Poole’s residence after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance. Moore said Poole had fled the scene prior to his arrival.
Moore said Poole and the woman got into an argument after the woman put his bicycle in her vehicle.
“Poole picked up a gas can and said he was going to set the garden on fire,” Moore wrote.
Moore then picked up a hatchet and told the woman he was going to break the windows of her car.
“Poole then raised the hatchet toward (the woman) and began walking toward her,” Moore said.
Moore said the woman filmed the threats on her cell phone. She told police that Poole was drinking “all day.”
Latrobe police located Poole in the vicinity of Don and Unity streets, where they took him into custody later Saturday. Moore said Poole was still carrying the hatchet.
Poole was arraigned Sunday and released on unsecured $50,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing before Unity District Judge Michael Mahady.
