A Unity man is facing aggravated assault and related charges after state police said he fired a rifle inside his home while two girls were there.

Mark William Slagle, 41, was arraigned Monday afternoon and is free on $5,000 unsecured bond.

Troopers said they were called to Puriton Avenue at 7:16 p.m. April 16 after one of the girls — both under 18 — called 911. She told investigators Slagle made threats while pointing the rifle at her. Police said in court papers Slagle fired the gun into a wall of the home and appeared intoxicated.

The two girls escaped safely, police said. Slagle was taken for a mental health evaluation.

He is charged with aggravated assault, child endangerment, terroristic threats and related offenses.

Slagle did not have an attorney listed in online court records. He could not be reached. A May 6 preliminary hearing is set.
