A Wilkinsburg man is in jail after Monessen police said he attempted to turn a valve on a fire truck during a fire call in the city Monday before he was tased by officers, according to court papers.

Aleksandr Doroshkevich, 37, is charged with resisting arrest, obstructing emergency services and related summary offenses.

Police were called around 9 p.m. to Grant Avenue for a report of a house fire and learned that a man was “yelling and causing issues with firefighters on scene,” according to court papers. As authorities followed him, believing he was involved in a previous incident, they said the man continued yelling at firefighters and others in the area.

A person who answered the phone at the police station said the previous incident was mental health-related and that there was no fire. The chief was not available.

As police closed in on the man, later identified as Doroshkevich, he tried to turn the valve and became aggressive toward officers, according to court papers. An officer used a taser and Doroshkevich, who appeared to be intoxicated, was taken into custody.

He is being held at the Westmoreland County Prison on $10,000 bail. A Sept. 9 preliminary hearing is set. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
