Police: Youngwood man locked out of bar after threat to kill patron with sledgehammer
A Youngwood man allegedly tried to attack a bar patron with a sledgehammer Saturday in an effort to get “street justice,” according to state police.
Michael Paul Davis, 37, is charged with aggravated assault, burglary, criminal trespass and related offenses in connection with the 1:30 a.m. incident outside Delaney’s Pub on South Third Street in Youngwood.
He is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison without bail.
The bar owner told investigators he locked the establishment’s door after getting a phone call from Davis who said he was on his way there to kill a man who was drinking inside, according to court papers. Minutes later, Davis started beating the exterior doors with a sledgehammer and could be heard screaming “I’m going to kill you.”
When police got there, they found Davis outside holding the sledgehammer in his bloodied hands. He ignored police commands to get on the ground and one of the troopers deployed a Taser. Davis appeared intoxicated and eventually was taken into custody, police said.
Two exterior doors were extensively damaged. While Davis was at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital for treatment, he “made multiple statements about wanting to kill (the man) and that he will have his street justice one day,” Trooper Tony Anthony wrote in the complaint.
Davis did not have an attorney listed in online court records. He was denied bail by a district judge because of his threat of “street justice,” according to online court records.
A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 19.
