A Yukon man is accused by state police of being intoxicated when he crashed on Interstate 70 in December, seriously injuring two young children, according to state police.

Andrew Joshua Calvin, 31, told police he had used cocaine and Suboxone, which can be used to treat pain or an opioid addiction, earlier on Dec. 9.

He was charged last week with child endangerment, driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and other offenses. Police said he did not have a valid driver’s license.

Troopers were called to the eastbound lanes in Hempfield at 4:55 p.m. to investigate the crash near mile marker 56. Police said a Toyota Carolla Calvin allegedly was driving hit another vehicle, struck the barrier and guiderail and rolled over, according to court papers.

Two boys in his backseat, ages 6 and 3, were taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said. It was unclear if the two occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash were hurt.

Police said Calvin showed signs of impairment, such as nervousness, constricted pupils and twitching. The charges were sent by summons. A June 4 preliminary hearing is set. Calvin did not have an attorney listed in online court records. He could not be reached.
