Children are invited to celebrate Presidents Day a few days early at the historic Fulton House in Derry Township.

The Derry Area Historical Society is hosting the free event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in its headquarters at 357 Pittsburgh St., just off Route 982 in New Derry.

Crafts, trivia and refreshments will be featured.

The Fulton House operated as an inn from 1817 to about 1850, according to the society. At that time, it was common for travelers on main traffic routes to find an inn every 10 miles — about as far as a horse and carriage could travel in one day.

The restored log building includes a stone fireplace that was added to reflect the structure’s early 19th century period. The society grounds also feature a restored blacksmith shop and barn.

Visit derryhistory.org for more information about the society. A brochure describing several area frontier forts can be viewed under the “Events” heading.
