Prize-winning golden retriever Daniel gets honor from Westmoreland County
Daniel, the prize-winning golden retriever at the 2020 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York, took a star turn in Greensburg on Thursday.
The dog, soon to be 6, was the guest of honor at the Westmoreland County Courthouse when he and owner Tammy Tomlinson of Hillock Golden Retrievers in Ligonier Township were honored by county commissioners.
“He’s just an all-around awesome dog,” Tomlinson said.
Daniel in February took home the titles of Best in Breed and Best Sporting Dog at the annual show held at Madison Square Garden. He also was named one of seven finalists for the competition’s best of show title, which was won by Siba, a standard poodle.
Daniel was named America’s No. 1 golden retriever in 2018 and 2019 and has been a media star, appearing on NBC’s Today show. He’s slated to be grand marshal for the Fort Ligonier Days parade in October.
Tomlinson, who bred and trained Daniel, said he’s ready to retire to Ligonier Township, where he will do field work and breed.
County commissioners, in the proclamation, honored Daniel for his success and “for putting the national spotlight on Westmoreland County.”
