Nate Nevala, district office director for U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, takes notes outside Reschenthaler’s Hempfield office in June as protesters press their case for the congressman’s support for a bill that would boost wages for home health care workers.

A citizens activist group is planning a rally Wednesday afternoon outside Republican Rep. Guy Reschenthaler’s Hempfield office to seek his support for the $3.5 trillion relief package supported by House Democrats but opposed by the GOP members.

Voice of Westmoreland plans to join with the United Home Care Workers of PA for the 12:30 p.m. rally outside Reschenthaler’s office at 700 Pellis Road.

Progressive and moderate Democrats have supported the massive package of relief aid, which also includes a pathway to citizenship for the DREAMers who are undocumented aliens, investments in affordable childcare, and universal pre-kindergarten.

Reschenthaler, however, has criticized President Biden’s plan for key legislative initiatives as another move in a war on American workers.

The $3.5 trillion budget plan was approved by the Democrat-controlled House on Aug. 24 on a party-line vote, but it faces an uncertain future in the Senate. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., has called for a “strategic pause” when considering a broad expansion of government programs and incurring greater debt that could spark inflation.
