Runners begin the Race for Grace at Norwin High School in 2018.

The 13th Annual Race For Grace that was to be run on April 4 around the Norwin High School complex, has been postponed because the school district is closed under Gov. Wolf’s orders and it is not known when it will reopen.

While the school district is closed, Norwin also has closed its facilities to the public. The event has not yet been rescheduled, said Dan Dodaro, a member of the Reflections of Grace Foundation, which sponsors the race.

More than 1,000 runners already have registered and they have been contacted, Dodaro said.

The foundation is named after Grace Ekis, who was five years old when she died in 2008 from Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a terminal form of brain cancer.

The race is the major fundraiser for the foundation, which has raised more than $1.3 million in the fight against pediatric brain cancer. The foundation has provided $450,000 for research to find a cure for DIPG and other forms of pediatric brain cancer and $665,000 to 465 families of children across the nation who are fighting brain cancer.
