State Rep. Matt Dowling, whose 51st District covers part of Fayette and Somerset counties, was reported to be in serious but stable condition Thursday as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident Wednesday night, a Republican Party official said.

Dowling, 36, of Uniontown, was en route to a Republican Party event in Lancaster County when the crash occurred, according to a statement from Jason Gottesman, a spokesman for House Republicans.

Dowling was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, where he was treated for significant trauma, according to Gottesman.

Dowling and his wife, Rebecca, have two young sons, according to his campaign website.

Additional details of the accident were not available.
