A social welfare organization associated with the non-partisan Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania plans to discuss reproductive rights during a rally from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pitt-Greensburg’s Mary Lou Campana Chapel off Mt. Pleasant Road in Hempfield.

“It’s important to have these conversations with college students, because they are the future of our movement. In addition to their engagement, it’s important they understand the implications of these policies — current and proposed — since they will have the most impact on them in the years to come,” said Sydney Etheredge, board member of Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates.

Etheredge said she will provide an overview of the state of reproductive health care in the state and how reproductive rights activists can support access to this type of care now and in the future. She said she also will discuss the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in June 2022 that overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, deciding there was no constitutional right to an abortion.

Etheredge said she will not be speaking in her capacity as the president of Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania. The Pitt-Greensburg College Democrats is sponsoring the event, but the university itself is not involved.
