Restitution, prison time set for North Huntingdon Aldi break-in
A man accused of breaking into a North Huntingdon Aldi grocery store was sentenced this week to seven months to four years in a state prison, according to a court order.
Angel E. Ortega-Yanez, 32, pleaded guilty to burglary, criminal mischief, theft, possession of an instrument of crime and propelling a missile into an occupied vehicle. A two-year probation term was imposed.
North Huntingdon police said the suspect used a hammer to break into the store Oct. 14 and shatter the windshield of a police cruiser. Officers responded to the market on Norwin Avenue around 2 a.m. and saw a man running from the store.
Ortega-Yanez stole two cash boxes containing about $800, according to court papers.
He was ordered to pay $1,400 in restitution to North Huntingdon police. Ortega-Yanez used an interpreter to help him understand the hearing during which he pleaded guilty and was sentenced, according to the order.
He was given credit for time served since his arrest.
