Road work plan includes Layton Bridge inspection

Motorists can expect travel restrictions near the Layton Bridge in Fayette County next week due to scheduled inspections.

Beginning Monday and through Friday, daytime closures will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. while bridge inspections take place. A detour will route drivers back to Layton Road.

PennDOT District 12 also plans a single-lane restriction on the Belle Vernon Bridge located on eastbound Interstate 70 between Exit 40 and Exit 41 in Washington County.

The Belle Vernon Bridge will have an eastbound single-lane restriction on Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Plum Contracting Inc. will repair bridge expansion joints as part of a larger project that includes steel and concrete work, as well as erosion protection across Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

Other activities in District 12 include:

• A portion of Route 3014, Bridge Street, between Buttermore Avenue and Railroad Street in Hunker is scheduled to close to traffic beginning Friday.

A posted detour will be in place from Friday at 7 a.m. until May 17 at 5 p.m. using Bridge Street, Center Avenue, West Pennsylvania Avenue and Buttermore Avenue.

• Single-lane restrictions on Route 30 between Basil Drive and Blackberry Road in Hempfield begin Tuesday. The restrictions will be in place while crews install a continuous automatic vehicle classification system.

Drivers can expect single- lane restrictions Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and work is expected to continue through late May. The job is being completed by Tresco Paving Corp. as part of a $11.3 million infrastructure improvement project.

The District 12 work plan includes:

• Base repair: Route 136 (Main Street) in West Newton; Route 51 in Rostraver; Route 981 in Salem, Mt. Pleasant and Unity townships.

• Bridge cleaning: Interstate 70 throughout the county; Route 119 in the Connellsville and New Stanton area.

• Box culvert replacement: Route 4041, Denmark Manor Road, in Penn Township; road closed between Manor Valley Golf Course and Harrison City Export Road.

• Crack sealing: Route 906 in Monessen; Interstate 70 in Rostraver; Route 31 in Mt. Pleasant Township.

• Drainage repair: Route 381 in Cook Township.

Edge paving: Route 400 in Bell and Washington townships.

Inlet repair: Route 22 in Delmont.

• Paving: Route 3077 (Edna Road) in Hempfield.

• Pipe flushing: Route 31, Mt. Pleasant Road, in South Huntingdon; Route 3037, Waltz Mill Road, in South Huntingdon; Route 2012, Depot Street, in Hempfield; Route 2012, Armbrust/Brinkerton Road, Hempfield.

• Pipe installation: Route 1006, Creek Road, in Fairfield.

• Shoulder cutting: Route 400, 819, 286 and 981 in Bell and Washington townships; Route 381 in Ligonier Township.
