Route 130 in Penn Township.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane overnight along a portion of Route 130 in Penn Township starting June 8 while Peoples Natural Gas works to replace aging pipelines.

The project is part of the gas company’s decades-long plan to replace 3,000 miles of pipelines to make their system more reliable and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, said spokesperson Nick Paradise. It’s about halfway done, he said, with estimated completion slated for 2034.

Work will take place along a nearly four-mile stretch of Route 130, between the road’s intersections with Suhan Drive and Manor-Harrison City Road.

Traffic will be shifted to one lane from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings.

The project is expected to last about 75 days, or until late August. It coincides with a landslide repair PennDOT is conducting along a separate section of the road.

Route 130 between 14th Street and Burrell Hill Road, just west of Jeannette, is closed for landslide repair until late August.

The detour directs drivers to Route 993, Business Route 66 and Oakford Park Road.
