A visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Greensburg Hempfield Area Library was one of the highlights Thursday for children attending downtown Greensburg’s annual Luminary Night.

The library served cookies and hot chocolate and offered games, music, crafts and other activities as part of its free Winter Wonderland party coinciding with the holiday luminary celebration.

Library visitors of all ages were invited to vote for their top three favorites in a display of holiday wreaths entered by residents in an inaugural wreath-decorating contest. Voting at the library will continue through Dec. 10, with visitors encouraged to deposit coins and bills in corresponding voting boxes.

The wreaths then will be awarded in a raffle. Tickets cost $5 and will be sold at the library Dec. 12-17.

Those who turned out for Luminary Night had the option of strolling along downtown sidewalks lined with glowing luminaria or taking a free ride on a horse-drawn carriage sponsored by First Commonwealth Bank.

Local community theater groups entertained with seasonal presentations.

The Stage Right! troupe presented a group of about 20 cast members, ages 4-18, in a StagED outreach production of “North Pole Musical.”

Westmoreland Performing Arts mustered between 30 and 40 of its young students for a series of seasonal medleys featuring Christmas songs from Broadway musicals, selections from the Disney movie “Frozen” and songs about Santa.
