A three-vehicle chain-reaction crash involving a school van shut down part of Route 819 in East Huntingdon on Monday.

State police said all three vehicles were traveling north on Route 819 around 8:50 a.m.. Two were stopped in the road while one was waiting to make a turn when the school van driver slammed into the rear of one of them after being distracted.

The driver of the van was taken to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, troopers said. Three students, a 15-year-old boy and two 6-year-old girls, were taken to Independence Health Frick Hospital. The boy had a minor injury and the girls were taken as a precaution.

They were from the Frazier School District.

The crash happened in the area of Tender Care Pediatric Dentistry and Country Pie Shoppe, south of Mt. Pleasant and not far from Route 119. No one in the other two vehicles was hurt, police said.

The school van was from T.A. Nelson Bus Lines.
