SeaBase in Greensburg announces temporary closure

SeaBase Family Fun Center will be closed through at least the end of March amid coronavirus concerns.

The Greensburg facility is asking anyone who has a party scheduled there over the next few weeks to get in touch to either reschedule the date or cancel it, according to a Facebook post. SeaBase can be reached at 724-838-8887.

The decision was made after Gov. Tom Wolf advised against large gatherings and recreational activities.

“We will miss seeing many familiar faces during the coming weeks, but our hearts go out especially to all the little ones who were looking forward to celebrating their big day with us,” the Facebook post said.

Anyone who has a party scheduled before March 31 is asked to call the center.

The standard seven-day cancellation policy is being waived.

Anyone who has a party scheduled after March 31 is asked to provide contact and party information to seabase fun.com/contact if they’re considering canceling and rescheduling.

Anyone with a membership will get extra time added to their pass, according to the post.

“This is not a decision we take lightly,” the post said. “March is reliably our single busiest month of the year … .”

The indoor center on East Pittsburgh Street has several play areas for children and regularly hosts birthday parties.

There are more than 40 coronavirus cases in Pennsylvania, including one in Washington County.

In the United States, at least 46 people have died from the disease caused by the new virus, and more than 2,100 positive cases have been identified, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A high percentage of people recover from coronavirus. Worldwide, there have been more than 5,000 deaths and more than 137,000 confirmed infections, according to Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Center.
