A missing 10-year-old North Huntingdon girl was found safe in a wooded area in White Oak on Wednesday night, police said.

A searcher found the girl, who lives in that neighborhood, shortly before 11 p.m., lying down about 50 feet from the road, said North Huntingdon Police Chief Robert Rizzo. The area is adjacent to White Oak Park and about a mile from Norwin’s Stewartsville Elementary School on Carpenter Lane, which turns into Muse Lane in White Oak.

The girl was transported to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, Rizzo said.

She was last seen in the area of Stewartsville Elementary School shortly before 8 p.m. and an alert was issued at 8:30 p.m.

Firefighters from North Huntingdon and White Oak, were joined by North Huntingdon and Irwin police, North Huntingdon’s police dog, North Huntingdon EMS/Rescue and a state police helicopter.
