A few streets in Jeannette, including Sellers Avenue, are going to be paved after the city received a state grant.

A road that Jeannette city manager Ethan Keedy pegged as one of the worst in the city will be repaved.

The entirety of Sellers Avenue — which Keedy described as one of the worst roads to drive on in Jeannette — will be resurfaced. That work will include Sellers Avenue/North Fifth Street between Harrison and Gaskill avenues, and extend to Gaskill Avenue between North Fifth and North Eighth streets.

“You hit so many potholes driving over there, that as soon as the public works department patches them, new ones form,” Keedy said of Sellers Avenue.

Jeannette will use a $1.1 million state grant and $90,000 of its 2024 Community Development Block Grant funding to pay for the project. Without the grant, the project wouldn’t be possible, he said. Work will include paving the streets and improving drainage. The drainage alone on Sellers Avenue will cost $300,000.

“We are going to have a lasting street,” he said.

But it may be a while before the project gets underway. Keedy said it could start in 2025, but depending on other projects, it might get pushed to 2026. The state grant requires it to be completed in 2027.

“We would love to pave every street that’s over there, but unfortunately, the cost is just not feasible,” he said. “The city is committed and trying its best to catch up on necessary paving and we’re thankful that the state has funded this project and other projects in the city” meant to improve infrastructure.

Keedy estimated the project could take six to eight months to complete.
