Area skiers can rejoice. Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Somerset County will open for skiing and snowboarding this weekend.

“Recent snowmaking success has made it possible for Seven Springs Mountain Resort to open for skiing and snowboarding this Saturday and Sunday,” resort marketing director Alex Moser said.

Since Dec. 1, the resort’s snowmaking teams have been taking full advantage of the cold air that is expected to continue through Thursday.

“With the help of 10 inches of natural snow last week, the hard-working teams spent the past seven days stacking up massive piles of snow at every opportunity,” Moser said.

Although the resort received natural snow a week ago, resort officials said it was not enough to open in view of new social distancing guidelines as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Moser suggested guests should prepare for their visit by reviewing the resort’s winter operations plan and clean and safety guidelines.

To protect the health and safety of guests and employees, the resort will work a bit differently with new systems in place to eliminate high-touch points and reduce time spent indoors, according to resort officials.

The resort is asking that guests pre-purchase their ski and snowboard products such as lift tickets, ski & snowboard rentals, lessons and more via 7springs.com.

Although forecasts call for temperatures to climb into the 40s and 50s Thursday and Friday, evening temperatures are expected to dip back into the 30s during the evenings.

Weekend ski and snowboard tickets are $64 per adult and $49 per child ages 6-11, resort officials said. Lodging is available in the hotel, cottages and chalets and condominiums. Slopes will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
